Note: Whether you face Metal Sonic or the Rocket Cyberex after clearing Forest Highway depends on which character you're playing as. Which boss you face will remain as such until you beat the game and have an impact later in the game.
Forest Highway
Description: "An old highway going through a dense forest at the base of an active volcano. An eruption has covered the area in cooling lava."
Act 1 Objectives:
-Race through the forest
-Encounter the giant saw vehicle
-Reach the main path
-Keep ahead of the saw vehicle
-Near the arsenal factory
Voice Notes: Prof. Kikui, RotomDex, Drew, Zoey, Iris, and Clemont use their voices from the anime.
Background Music: The Guardian Rock theme from Sonic Forces plays throughout the stage. When being chased by the Rocket Blade Tank, the music that plays in Guardian Rock when being chased by the giant crab mech from the same game plays.
Several months after Team Rocket's attack using the Ultra Beasts and their subsequent conquering of the world, the Pokémon Peace Squad has decided to take action and begin liberating the world from their clutches. To start things off, the chosen character and several members of the Squad have discovered a giant factory belonging to Team Rocket that's connected to the system being used to lock up all the world's Pokéballs and weapons, and are tasked with taking it down. If this stage seems familiar, it's because it's the first stage from the first PPS game, although Ultra Beasts triggered an eruption from Red Mountain at an unknown point, causing lava to flood the area. As you begin the stage, you'll encounter a giant vehicle going along the highway headed for the factory, and countless sawblades ling the sides of it, which will extend themselves to try and cut/crush you. As you head through the stage, you'll go through a network of technological structures and pipes/cables that make up what helps Team Rocket keep their control on the world as well as robots belonging to them, Dr. Eggman, and Ultra Beasts, these ones consisting of Nihilego (jellyfish), Buzzwole (mosquitoes), Katrana (origami), and a single Celesteela (pillars). There are also areas and puddles of cooling lava that's still hot and damages you if you touch it. When you reach the highway itself, it turns out that time has taken its toll on it, with some parts of it collapsing when stepped on or if a Buzzwole lands on it. As you near the end of the stage, the Rocket Blade Tank as it's called will use its autojacks to land behind you and begin chasing you, using its numerous saws to send trees flying at you and tearing up the ground with its Pathcrusher-like wheel. When you reach the highway again, it'll jump on to it and cause it to collapse behind it. When you reach the bridge, you'll be asked to trigger switches that will detonate bombs under the bridge and send the Rocket Blade Tank to its demise, although something flies out of it. Upon reaching solid ground again, you'll reach a Goal Gate and pass through it, clearing the stage.
