Note: Whether you face Veil or the Rocket Metagross after clearing Undersea Volcano depends on which character you're playing as. Which boss you face will remain as such until you beat the game and have an impact later in the game.
Undersea Volcano
Description: "An underwater volcano that might be Team Rocket's central base. If we strike here, we could end their dominance over the world…"
Act 1 Objectives:
-Go along the undersea pathway
-Get across the lava flows
-Enter the volcano
-Cross the Volteccer lines
-Reach the core of the complex
Voice Notes: Samson Oak, RotomDex, and Shingo use their voices from the anime. Amy uses her voice from the Sonic series games. Cid uses his voice from FF7 Advent Children. Roll and Beatrice use original castings for their voices.
Background Music: The Thermal Base 1 theme from Freedom Planet plays during the underwater area of the stage. The Thermal Base 2 theme from the same game plays upon entering the dry area of the base.
As more of Team Rocket's Ultra Beast forces have fallen, the rebellion has discovered what could be a gigantic launch base, which appears to be located inside a volcano on the ocean floor. Seeing the location as possibly Giovanni's base of operations, the rebellion has decided to make a decisive strike against him and end this war once and for all. The chosen character, using the Lead Sink feature once again, drops down onto the perimeter of the volcano and starts looking for an entrance to the complex, the Aquatic Division backing them up offscreen. As you're underwater, you'll have to find air bubbles and open item capsules containing Potions to avoid drowning, although there are a couple Water Shields that can remedy this. Along the way, you'll have make your way over lava flows coming from the volcano and at times deal with lava bombs ejected from volcanic vents. In addition, there are a number of Team Aqua robots to get past and also Ultra Beasts consisting of Nihilego and Kartana as well as a couple instances of enemies from Pulseman; large cat head-shaped spheres that fire lasers. As you progress through the stage, disaster strikes as on the Pokétch radio the Aquatic Division is attacked by a group of Nihilego, and quickly decimated by them as contact with them is abruptly cut off, the sole survivor being the chosen character. While the others you're in contact with are horrified by this, Shingo tells the chosen character to keep going and hope the Aquatic Division's loss isn't in vain. When you reach the entrance to the base, you'll have to defeat a Guzzlord to get past, and shortly after entering, you'll exit the water and the Lead Sink feature turns off. As you explore the place, you'll contend with Team Rocket robots, various enemies from Pulseman, and the same Ultra Beasts from before in addition to Buzzwole, Xurkitree, and Celesteela, some of which burst out of large capsules in some corridors. There are also areas where you'll have to collect Thunder Shields (these respawn in regeneration rings) and use them to go along Volteccer lies (from Pulseman), but later on you'll have to be careful of waterfalls, which will cause you to lose your Thunder Shield and fall. Some giant chambers in the complex happens to contain Regicolossi, although these appear to be inactive. Eventually, you'll reach the heart of the base, where passing through a Goal Gate clears the stage.
